As many of you know we have been waiting for nearly a year now since London Borough of Waltham Forest went back on their offer of the St James St site that is so perfect for our project. Following the article in Waltham Forest Guardian http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/news/12894120.Council_denies_land_offer_for_women_s_centre_plan/?action=success#comments we have been contacted by some of our supporters with suggestions for other sites.
Yesterday we went to visit this great little building in Camden.
We loved the building, but sadly it did not meet all the criteria we have for our project. We thought it was a bit far from transport links, especially at night, whereas the St James St site is in a busy well-lit area right next to a train station. The building would be fine for a women’s centre, but there was not enough space for all the different activities that we hope to provide, hot-desking, creche, meeting rooms, performance space etc.
So we havent given up with St James St but while we carry on waiting we are open to other possibilities!
