We had an excellent meeting with Stephen Hill and Catherine Harrington at CLT on Tuesday.A Community Land Trust looks to be a very good vehicle for Rooms of our Own to take our project forward. Stephen and Catherine are a great source of information and advice.
CLTs are not a legal form as such, but are legally defined in the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008. They are established “for the express purpose of furthering the social, economic and environmental interests of a local community by acquiring and managing land and other assets”.
This chimes very well with Rooms of our Own’s objectives to acquire the site in St James St and to construct a women’s centre where women’s charities, businesses and individual women can meet, network, provide services and advice and generate improvements.
CLT also has various funding streams which would be useful at this stage of our development.
