Women’s Library nominated as a community asset

Delighted to learn that the Women’s Library in Old Castle Street has now been nominated by Tower Hamlets Council as a community asset under the new “community right to bid” legislation.

Sad that all efforts to persuade LSE to keep the wonderful collections where they belong seem to have failed. A giant letter was delivered to LSE governors on the 13th December but they say they have no interest in the building, even if a consortium can be put together to manage it.delivering letter to LSETheir plan is to start moving the books and artefacts to their own library in Holborn in January.

However the community asset nomination at least means that LMU  cannot dispose of the building without triggering a 6month moratorium so that is good news.
